February 27-28, the Department of Philosophy hosts a two-day conference in celebration of our own Georges Rey's years as a philosopher of language and cognitive science: Representation, Language and Learning.
The conference welcomes five esteemed speakers: Louise Antony (Professor Emerita, UMass Amherst), John Collins (Research Professor, University of Basque Country and Ikerbasque), Steven Gross (Professor, Johns Hopkins), Joseph Levine (Professor Emeritus, UMass Amherst), and Paul Pietroski (Distinguished Professor, Rutgers, and Professor Emeritus, Maryland).
Several of the themes to be discussed are available in publications linked just below. A list of all Georges's publications is here.
- Syntax as idealized dispositions (Monist, forthcoming)
- Representation of Language (OUP, 2020)
- The analytic/synthetic distinction (SEP, 2023)
- Taking consciousness seriously - as an illusion (Journal of Consciousness Studies, 2016)
- Innateness (with Steven Gross) (Oxford Handbook of Philosophy of Cognitive Science, 2012)
