Title: Locating Values in the Space of Possibilities

Abstract: Where do values live in the mind? It would seem like cognitive models on which thinkers explicitly represent states as rewarding would answer this question. Values live in specialized representations of reward. But I argue that even in agents that do represent explicit rewards, there is another site of value representation: latent information in dividing up possible states and acts. These cognitive underpinnings of value can come apart from explicit values, at least in human-like creatures, creating a kind of incoherence or ambiguity.
