Peter giving Carnap Lectures in Bochum
February 14, 2025

On inner speech, tribalism, desire and consciousness.
March 17-19, our Spring Break, Peter Carruthers is in Bochum, Germany, for the honor of presenting this year's Rudolf-Carnap Lectures at the Ruhr University. Peter will be presenting four lectures on his work:
- The Interpretative Sensory-Access Theory of Self-Knowledge: The Case of Inner Speech
- Understanding Human Motives: Hedonism, Altruism, and Tribalism (Public Lecture)
- The Nature of Pleasure and Desire: Where Philosophers Go Wrong
- Stop Caring About (Phenomenal) Consciousness
This will be the 17th instance of the annual Carnap Lectures, whose long roster of notable philosophers and scientists can be viewed here. The focus of the series is usually on "Philosophy of Mind, Language or Science," consistent with the legacy of its namesake, who was born twenty miles south of the host University, in Ronsdorf (later a district of Wuppertal), owing to his father being a ribbon-maker.
