Lucy Bryan wins Dean's Senior Scholar Award
November 01, 2026
Celebrated for academic excellence, creative achievement, and community leadership.
Big congratulations to Philosophy major Lucy Bryan, who has been selected as a Dean's Senior Scholars by the College of Arts and Humanities. She is one of just seven recipients of this prestigious annual award, which recognizes "distinguished and creative academic performance [and] promise of continued distinction in the discipline," as well as "leadership qualities and a commitment to community involvement."
In 2023 Lucy graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland, where she was captain of the lacrosse team. Now at UMD she is in her final year of a major in Philosophy and a minor in Creative Writing. She has had an extraordinary academic record in both areas, publishing her poetry in Stylus, receiving a College Park Arts Scholars Citation for her Capstone Project, and writing brilliantly in her philosophy classes, recently including Kantian Ethics and Philosophy of Aristotle. For all of her time here, she has also served as a mentor to students with intellectual disabilities, within the TerpsEXCEED program, where her leadership was highly commended.
Dean's Senior Scholar awards will be announced at the Fall Scholar Reception on the evening of November 10, and then again at this year's Commencement ceremony. If you see Lucy on campus, please celebrate her achievements!
