Ethics Bowl Team going to the National Ethics Bowl competition
The Ethics Bowl Club is comprised of seven members. The president and team captain is Quin Zabel, the treasurer and assistant captain is Kenzie Funk, and the rest of the team is rounded out with Aditya Chattopadhyay, Dimitri Sfakiyanudis, Daniel McLawhorn, Jake Leming, and Sophia Winner. Their faculty supervisor is Kodie Lustig. This group meets twice weekly to sharpen their ethical skills for the purposes of debating 15 cases with other universities. These cases cover a wide range of topics such as whether elephants count as people, whether religious exemptions grounded in false beliefs can excuse vaccine requirements, whether performance enhancing drugs should be permitted in major sports leagues, and more. On December 3, 2022, they went to Villanova to demonstrate their ethical mastery in the Northeast Regional which is an ethics debate competition featuring other nearby universities. After four intense debates which were adjudicated by the ethics faculty at Villanova, they finished in second place at 3-0-1. Happily, this was sufficient to secure them a berth to the National Ethics Bowl competition which will be on March 3-5, 2023, in Portland, Oregon.
